Hrishikesh Kapse, a youth boxer in the Light Fly weight category from the Thane District Boxing Association won his Maharashtra State Selection Trials for the Youth National Boxing Championship held at Chandrapur graciously.Hrishikesh proved his mettle once again after being the state champion at Sangli in January 2011 at the Maharashtra State Level Boxing Championship.
Hrishikesh reached Chandrapur along with his other teammate Aditya Pawar in the middle weight  by winning bouts at Mumbai Division Level and then at North Zone Level. Hrishikesh won his bout against Jayesh Pungera; the well known South Paw Boxer from Mumbai District.
Hrishikesh made his way by rock solid uppercuts into the tall body of Jayesh and giving him standing count twice. This victory of his led him to the zonal selection. At North Zone team selection on the May 1, 2011 Hrishikesh had an experienced opponent from Bhusawal, Rahul Birhade. Rahul played all three rounds with vigour and offered maximum resistance to Hrishikesh.
But with a different combination, Hrishikesh won this bout on point with the score of 8:4. This victory won him a place at the Maharashtra State Selection at Chandrapur. At Chandrapur, in the first bout, Hrishikesh got Satish Shitole from the West Zone (Pune District) as an opponent.
Satish is an experienced and a tall boxer than Hrishikesh. But Hrishikesh appeared physically stronger in the ring. That was to Hrishikesh’s advantage which he used effectively to beat Satish so badly that the bout was terminated in the second round by the referee due to three counts for the head blows.
That win took him straight to the finals, where Hrishikesh faced the hit from Amit Tayde of East Zone (Krida Prabodhini, Akola). Amit was very well prepared and experienced but Hrishikesh was groomed in the camp by his coaches Milan Vaidya and Sagar Pednekar to mark his victory over Krida Prabodhini boy and make his way to the Nationals.
Hrishikesh won this bout on the points showing his versatile boxing skills and the score was 14:11. However his team mate from the Thane Aditya settled for the Bronze Medal by his prominent opponent Mukesh Yadav from East Zone (Nagpur Distrtict).
Now Hrishikesh will leave for the camp organised by the Maharashtra State Boxing Association at the Krida Prabodhini, Akola and from there he will leave for the Youth National Boxing Championship organised at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh from May 24 to 29, 2011.
Hrishikesh started taking boxing lessons from his Coach Milan Vaidya two years ago and has been groomed in the residential Boxing Camp by Sagar Pednekar and Vaidya. Aditya also was prepared under their guidance. Vaidya has expressed confidence in the ability of Hrishikesh to make a sure mark at the National level.

The Thane District Boxing Association conducted its selection trials on July 15, 2011 declaring its team to represent Thane district at the Maharashtra State Boxing Championship at Pune from July 31 to August 11, 2011.Milan Vaidya, technical director of Thane District Boxing Association said,
“In the selection trials we had few hard hitting bouts as Vasai Knights were well prepared and in heavier weights Navi Mumbai surprisingly did well this time. Otherwise more or less Kalyan maintained its supremacy in the District and proven to be hub for the budding boxers.”
Milan continued, “Prominent players in the Elite team are Hrishikesh Kapse, a Gold Medalist at Youth Level, Jayant Pawar, Rohit Gankar, Aditya Pawar, former Silver Medalist at Youth level, Hemant Patil and Fahad Siddique are the hopes for medals. Swapnil Patil from Vasai Knights is in very good form and should repeat the performance of his predecessor Hrishikesh. Vimal Singh and Raffique Shaikh are another medal hopes in the Youth Boys Team.”
In the Sub Junior Boys Team of 12 to 14 years, boxers Bhagesh Shah, Sahil Jadhav are comparatively new and are first timers but Sahil can produce some surprising results.In Under 10-11 age group, Piyush Kanchan is practicing for the last two months and he is the youngest boxer in the whole of the Thane District. His Coach Ravindra Desai is showing extra ordinary confidence in this 10-year-old lad.
It’s been all the time record that all women boxers from the Thane District fetch laurels, as they did last year too. Totally 12 girls participated and all 12 got medals and on top of that Dhanashri Thakur fetched Best Boxer Award in Cub Class (Currently she is in Pre Nationals preparation camp) and Priyanka Mhatre from Vasai got most Promising Boxers award in Youth Girls, said Milan.
Dipti Ingle is one of the probable medalists. Other than Neelam Mhatre all other are sure medal winners and they have great track record to say so. Priyanka is a South Paw Boxer strong enough to win Fly category. She is former Gold medalist and Most Promising Boxer of Maharashtra too.
These Sub Junior Girls are the most promising lot among all. All three are former Gold medalists and are in good form. Dhanashri and Mrudula had both won Maharahstra State Selection trials recently at Nagpur.

As if a bonus, she was present in 2010-2011 when the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the talent search for the Olympics were in progress, giving her the chance to rub shoulders with the names that matter – Vijender Singh, Akhil Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Paramjit Samota, Manprit Singh, M.C Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Kavita Goyal and many more as she refereed them as they performed in their trials.

“The training consisted of practicals like shadow boxing, bag punching, endurance training for speed, specific training for increasing specific muscular strength; plus theory in the history of boxing, rules and regulations, ethical behavior and more,” said Kanchan.

She added, “In the course there were a total of a 100 students comprising 60 boys and 40 girls from all India, all of top level national and international players, being trained by the main coaches who were J S Fernandes from Cuba with Gurbax Singh Sandhu, India‘s chief coach and Anup Kumar who was the chief coach for the ladies.”

“It was a great experience and a learning process,” concluded Kanchan as she gets ready to coach the state sub juniors for their tournament at Coimbatore between July 24 and July 30. The camp is being held at Sacred Heart School at Varap village, near Kalyan.

Part of the little raft belongings consisted of an old sail, and this they spread over a nook in the bushes for a tent to shelter their provisions; but they themselves would sleep in the open air in good weather, as became outlaws.

1. They built a fire against the side of a great log twenty or thirty
2. steps within the sombre depths of the forest, and then cooked some
3. bacon in the frying-pan for supper, and used up half of the corn "pone"
4. stock they had brought. It seemed glorious sport to be feasting in that
5. wild, free way in the virgin forest of an unexplored and uninhabited
6. island, far from the haunts of men, and they said they never would
7. return to civilization. The climbing fire lit up their faces and threw
8. its ruddy glare upon the pillared tree-trunks of their forest temple,
9. and upon the varnished foliage and festooning vines.

When the last crisp slice of bacon was gone, and the last allowance of corn pone devoured, the boys stretched themselves out on the grass, filled with contentment. They could have found a cooler place, but they would not deny themselves such a romantic Featured as the roasting camp-fire.
